Edward A. Governor Florence, S.C. - Edward August Governor, 80, died peacefully, with his daughters at his side on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Carolinas Hospital in Florence. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 16, at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Layton-Anderson Funeral Home, 4210 W. Palmetto St., Florence. Born in Clifton Springs, Edward was the son of the late Flormund and Frances Fraser Governor. He received his bachelor's degree in engineering and worked as an electrical engineer with General Electric in Florence until his retirement. A member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Edward was a life member of the Knights of Columbus. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Edward was married to the late Mary Lou McConnell Governor, who passed away in 2010. He is survived by two daughters, Barbara (John) Waters of Florence and Sharon (Gary) Brooks, Crozet, Va.; a brother, Robert Governor; two sisters, Shirley Vanderwall and Helen Martin both of New York; and two grandchildren, Benjamin and Brian Waters.
