Canandaigua – Stephen Opett, age 83, passed away in the early morning on June 11, 2026.

He is survived by six children, Nicole (Barrett) Ross, Rita (Brian) Anderson, Karl Opett, Michelle Opett, Phillip Opett, and Steven (Lynn) Opett; 10 grandchildren, Austin Ross, Marissa (Dakota) Sanford, Sarah Opett, Ashley (Mike) Evans, Joshua (Kayla) Anderson, Gretchen Stanley, Jaunette Smith, Rachel (Tim) Skoog, Matthew Opett, and Jacob Opett; numerous great-grandchildren; and brother, Jim (Sharon) Opett. He was predeceased by his wife, Rita (Moss) Opett, and brother, Cyril Opett, Jr.

Stephen was born in Scranton, PA, to the late Cyril and Margaret (Poldruhak) Opett. He spent many years working for General Motors, where he was known for his strong work ethic and steady dedication. Outside of work, Stephen found joy tending to his garden and flower beds and watching NASCAR races. What he cherished most was spending time with his grandchildren. Stephen will be remembered for his quiet strength, love of family, and the simple joys that brought him peace.
