Cookie was born in York, Pennsylvania on April 15, 1925, the only daughter of the late George D. and Helen (Anders) Johnson. Prior to her marriage to John S. Brooks in 1948, she worked as a licensed beautician. She was a longtime resident of the town of Varick, working alongside her husband on the family farm along the Cayuga Lake shore. As a testament of their love and devotion, John and Cookie adopted their two children, when it was determined that they were unable to have their own.
Cookie will be fondly remembered for her quick wit and loving personality. Her bright smile and jovial attitude were a welcomed addition to any event, no matter how large or small. Please remember Cookie for her kindness, sparkle and gentle demeanor.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda R. Slyck of Mountain Home, Idaho; grandchildren, Laurel K. (Johnny C.) McMahan of Mountain Home, Idaho, Alycia G.(Gregory A.) Slyck of Portland, Ore., Jonathan G. Slyck of Portland, Ore.; and great-grandchildren, Zeffrey L. and Columbus B. McMahan and Aella R. Slyck.
Cookie was preceded in death by her son, Dennis A. Brooks; and her husband of 62 years, John S. Brooks in 2010.
