Warm stretch continues, but a pattern change arrives by week’s end

Tuesday evening has turned out to be one of the more comfortable moments of the week so far — clear to mainly clear skies across most of the region, temperatures holding in the upper 70s to low 80s, and a light easterly breeze keeping things from feeling oppressive. That’s the good news. The pattern shift is already on the calendar.

Overnight, skies stay mostly clear and lows settle into the mid-60s regionwide — around 65° for Geneva and Ithaca, closer to 62–63° down toward Corning and Elmira. No frost risk, no precipitation to speak of. Wednesday looks like the pick of the week, with highs pushing to 86° in Geneva under mostly dry conditions — a 26% drizzle chance tonight fades quickly, and Wednesday’s precipitation chance drops to just 4%.

Thursday is where the story shifts. A mid-level trough and associated weak cold front will begin pushing across the central Great Lakes Thursday afternoon, bringing widely scattered showers and thunderstorms — particularly late in the day. The front pushes through Thursday night into Friday, keeping shower chances elevated into Friday with a 63% precipitation probability and highs pulling back to near 78°. The weekend looks to rebound nicely, with mainly clear skies and highs back into the low-to-mid 80s Saturday and Sunday.
