My eye has been on the southern valleys all evening — Ithaca is still picking up moderate rain at 76° while Bath is getting slight rain to the southwest, and the gap between those two towns tells you a lot about how unevenly this system has been behaving. The culprit is a weak surface low tracking over or just south of the region, dragging enough moisture northward to keep showers and the occasional embedded thunderstorm possible through this evening, particularly for areas closer to the Pennsylvania border.
Overnight, the activity gradually diminishes as the low slides east, but expect drizzle to linger into the early morning hours across the valleys. Lows will settle in the mid-to-upper 60s regionwide — Geneva and Canandaigua near 66°, Ithaca and Auburn closer to 68°. No frost risk tonight. No NWS alerts are in effect.
Tuesday brings a welcome improvement. The low clears out and high pressure edges in, pushing Geneva toward a high near 78° under mostly cloudy to partly clearing skies, with only a 26% chance of lingering drizzle by afternoon. Wednesday looks like the cleanest day of the week — mainly clear and warm, with highs near 85°. Enjoy it: another round of showers returns by Thursday.
