Scattered Drizzle Clears by Midday, Warm Week Ahead

There’s a humidity story written all across the region this morning — Corning and Bath are sitting at 100% humidity with light drizzle and temperatures in the low 60s, while Geneva and Auburn are a few degrees warmer under partly cloudy skies with a slightly lighter feel to the air. That north-south split tells you exactly where the lingering moisture from last night’s activity is still holding on.

The National Weather Service in Buffalo is flagging widely scattered showers and an isolated thunderstorm possible across the Southern Tier and western Finger Lakes through midday. Coverage should remain sparse — the deeper moisture and forcing that drove yesterday’s activity have already pushed well east of the region. For most of us north of the southern valleys, today is simply a gray-to-partly-sunny transition. Highs reach near 80° across the board this afternoon, with the southern communities around Corning and Elmira topping out closer to 78°.

Skies continue to clear through this evening, and overnight temperatures settle in the mid-60s under mostly clear conditions. Wind stays light throughout — nothing more than 4 to 6 mph out of the east.

The week turns noticeably warmer from here. Wednesday brings mainly clear skies with highs climbing to 86°, and Thursday pushes to near 87° before the next system arrives. That next round of showers and scattered thunderstorms is expected late Thursday into Friday, with Friday showing the higher precipitation probability at 56%. The weekend resets nicely — Saturday and Sunday both look mainly clear with highs in the low-to-mid 80s.
