Skies are doing some interesting work across the region right now — the northern end of the lakes, Geneva and Canandaigua, are sitting under mainly clear to partly cloudy conditions at 75–76°, while the southern tier is holding onto a thick overcast with Corning, Elmira, and Watkins Glen locked in the low 70s. That north-south split tracks with what NWS Buffalo has been watching all morning: the trough forcing has largely pushed east, but a few spotty showers or an isolated thunderstorm could still develop across the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes through mid-afternoon before coverage thins.
Highs top out near 78–80° region-wide this afternoon. Skies clear more broadly this evening, and tonight stays warm and dry, lows around 65°. Wednesday and Thursday bring the most straightforward stretch of the week — mainly sunny, highs climbing to 86° and 88° respectively. The next round of showers and storms arrives late Thursday into Friday, with the 7-day showing a 61% precip chance by Friday.
