A warm week builds — but unsettled weather moves in by midweek

I’m watching a warm and increasingly humid pattern take shape across the region this afternoon — and so far, the morning forecast is playing out pretty much as expected. Temperatures at noon are running in the upper 60s to mid-70s, with the clearest skies showing up across Geneva, Auburn, and Canandaigua. The southern end of the region — Elmira, Corning, and Bath — is sitting under more cloud cover, holding a few degrees cooler, though no surprises there.

No alerts are in effect, and this afternoon should stay dry and pleasant regionwide. Highs will top out near 81° across most of the lakes by mid-afternoon, though Elmira and Corning may stay a touch cooler near 79° under that lingering overcast. Winds are light out of the south-southeast, keeping things comfortable.

Tonight, clouds fill in ahead of Tuesday’s warm push, with lows dropping to the mid-to-upper 50s. Tuesday into Wednesday is where this week gets interesting — a surge of heat and moisture pushes highs into the upper 80s Tuesday, with a messy mix of drizzle, showers, and eventually thunderstorms arriving Wednesday through Friday. NWS Buffalo flagged the possibility of heat headlines by mid-to-late week, with heat indices potentially reaching the mid-90s.
