33 year old Jeremy Grady of Sodus was travelling South on State Route 21 in the Town of Hopewell, when he fell asleep. Mr. Grady's vehicle drifted East into the oncoming lane and off the Northbound shoulder of the highway, striking a utility pole,
It took approximately 20 minutes before EMS personnel could remove Mr. Grady from his vehicle and treat him because of the power lines that were on his vehicle.
Mr. Grady was flown to Strong Memorial Hospital, by Mercy Flight, for neck, head and leg injuries. Mr. Grady was issued tickets for Failure to Keep Right and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle as his license was revoked on two separate dates.
Shortsville and the VA Fire Departments assisted at the scene, along with Fingerlakes Ambulance. RG&E responded to cut the power to the lines and to replace the pole
State Route 21 was closed between County Rd 19/Johnson Rd to State Route 488/Schutt Rd. for a few hours, while the power crew replaced the lines.
