The pleasant evening unfolding across the region right now is the calm before something more intense — the NWS Buffalo office is using the phrase “potentially dangerous heat” for Tuesday, and that confidence is growing. For tonight, though, it’s an easy one.
Skies stay clear overnight as temperatures fall to the upper 50s across most of the region, with Geneva settling near 64° and Ithaca a touch warmer. No frost, no precipitation concerns, no alerts in effect. Winds drop off light and northerly, making for comfortable sleeping conditions across the lakes.
Tomorrow, Sunday, looks like the nicest day of the stretch — clear skies, highs near 83° in Geneva, humidity still in check, and winds under 5 mph. Enjoy it.
The story shifts Monday, when a high-pressure ridge expanding out of the Great Plains pushes heat and moisture into the region. Temperatures climb to near 89° Monday and then surge to around 95° on Tuesday, when humidity will be on the rise and heat index values could flirt with triple digits north and west of the lakes. Wednesday eases back toward 88°, and the pattern stays warm through the end of next week.
