There’s a split picture across the Finger Lakes this evening — Geneva and Canandaigua are seeing light to moderate drizzle at 83–84°, while Ithaca and Watkins Glen are sitting warmer at 87° under mainly clear to partly cloudy skies. That contrast tells the story of a cold front working its way through from the northwest, and it’s the reason the Buffalo NWS has flagged an elevated severe weather risk for this afternoon and evening.
The front’s arrival brought a Marginal Risk for strong to severe thunderstorms across western New York, with the main threats being damaging wind gusts and large hail from any mature cells. The south shore of Lake Ontario and areas to its east have been the focal point for storm activity, with scattered development possible elsewhere through this evening. Heavy rainfall with any stronger cells could also produce isolated flash flooding — something to keep in mind given the Seneca River is already running at 469 cfs near Seneca Falls.
Tonight, the front clears through and conditions settle down, with lows in the upper 60s for most of the region — Bath should see the coolest reading, dropping to near 63°. No frost concerns tonight.
Tomorrow brings a bit of a reset: highs hold around 80° under moderate rain chances, particularly in the morning. By Saturday the clouds thin, and a drier, more pleasant stretch arrives through early next week, with highs building back toward the mid-80s by Monday and pushing near 92° by Tuesday.
