A few stations across the southern end of the region are catching light drizzle at midday — Watkins Glen and Elmira are both reporting it at 78°, the remnant of a cold front that’s been moving slower than advertised and is still draped across the area. Geneva and Canandaigua sit at 76° under mostly overcast to partly cloudy skies, with northerly winds holding humidity in the upper 70s.
NWS Buffalo flagged a window — roughly 1 PM to 6 PM — when a few stronger thunderstorms are possible toward the western Southern Tier as the front finally pushes south. Isolated gusty winds and heavy rain are the primary concerns if any storms organize. The Finger Lakes proper isn’t the focus, but anyone in Corning or the Bath area should keep an eye on the sky through late afternoon.
Tonight, the front clears south and skies begin to open up. Sunday looks dry and pleasant, with highs near 82°. The heat builds from there — Monday climbs to 88°, Tuesday pushes to 93°, and Wednesday holds in the upper 80s. A warm stretch looks locked in through the middle of next week.
