The air already feels thick out there this morning — Bath is sitting at 100% humidity and 63°, and Corning and Elmira are not far behind at 97–98% with calm winds and mainly clear skies. It’s a deceptively quiet start to what’s going to be an unsettled day across the Finger Lakes.
The morning stays dry, with skies holding partly cloudy to mainly clear through midday. Temperatures climb quickly, though — highs will reach the upper 80s regionwide, with Ithaca and Watkins Glen touching near 91° this afternoon. That heat and humidity combination will push feels-like temperatures into the upper 80s to low 90s for most, and possibly to the mid-90s near the western Finger Lakes. Drink water and limit strenuous outdoor activity during the peak afternoon heat.
The real story is the weakening cold front approaching from the northwest. The NWS Buffalo office is watching a Marginal Risk for a few severe storms this afternoon into the evening — primarily gusty winds and heavy rainfall are the concerns, not a widespread severe outbreak, but a few storms could punch hard. Showers and thunderstorms are likely between early afternoon and late evening. Evening outdoor plans should be flexible.
Overnight, the front pushes through and rain lingers into Friday. Highs drop to around 80° Friday and to the upper 70s by Saturday, with skies clearing and conditions feeling noticeably more comfortable by the weekend. Sunday through early next week looks mainly clear and pleasant, with highs climbing back toward the mid-80s by mid-next week.
