Tomorrow Brings Drizzle and Humidity Before Thursday Storms

The heat peaked right on cue this evening — Geneva is sitting at 87° as of 5:50 PM, and Ithaca and Watkins Glen both touched 88–89° this afternoon under clear skies. Tonight, that warmth doesn’t go anywhere fast. Lows will only slip to the mid-to-upper 60s regionwide, making for a muggy, somewhat restless night. No alerts are in effect, and the evening stays dry.

Tomorrow is where things get interesting. Dew points are expected to climb into the upper 60s by Thursday, making humidity the lead story for the day. A few patches of morning drizzle are possible, especially south of Geneva, with skies staying mostly overcast and highs holding near 88° before clouds thicken through the afternoon. A weak cold front pushing southeast out of the Great Lakes is expected to trigger showers and thunderstorms Thursday afternoon and into Friday — the National Weather Service has flagged a Marginal Risk for severe storms and excessive rainfall with that system. Friday brings the better chance of organized storms, with highs dropping back to near 79° by Friday. The weekend looks quieter and drier, with pleasant conditions returning by Saturday.
