Fog has settled across the valleys this morning — Geneva is sitting at 66° under dense fog, and a few spots like Watkins Glen and Elmira are already picking up light drizzle as a weak frontal zone drapes across the region. Sunrise came at 5:35 AM, and NWS Buffalo expects the fog to dissipate within an hour or two of daybreak as temperatures begin to climb.
Today won’t be dramatic, but it won’t be clean either. The fog clears by mid-morning, giving way to a mostly cloudy, humid day with highs reaching near 80° in Geneva and Auburn, and around 78° to 79° in Bath and Corning. Rain chances are actually fairly low this afternoon — only around 7% for Geneva — but the air stays thick and the sky stays gray. The stalled frontal zone over northern Pennsylvania is the culprit, keeping deep moisture locked in across the Southern Tier.
Monday brings the most persistent rain of this stretch, with a 59% precipitation chance for Geneva and higher totals likely across the southern portion of the region as that front continues to interact with a series of small disturbances moving along it. Tuesday sees some improvement but still carries a 37% chance of light drizzle.
The better news comes Wednesday, when partial clearing pushes highs near 83°. By Thursday, highs climb to around 85° with returning humidity and another round of drizzle possible. The pattern stays unsettled through next weekend, with highs holding in the upper 70s to low 80s and scattered rain chances continuing into Saturday and Sunday.
