Yates County Sheriff’s Office Releases 2nd Quarter Numbers

The Yates County Sheriff’s Office handled more than 5,200 law enforcement calls during the second quarter of 2026, according to the agency’s newly released quarterly statistics report.

From April through June, dispatchers received 5,277 law enforcement calls, along with 518 fire calls and 741 EMS calls.

Law Enforcement Activity

Deputies made 946 traffic stops during the three months and issued 404 vehicle and traffic tickets. The Sheriff’s Office also reported 3,756 deputy contacts with members of the public.

The agency made 27 arrests, including 13 driving while intoxicated arrests. Five cases involved drug possession, drug sales or overdoses.

Crash Statistics

Deputies investigated 156 motor vehicle crashes, including:

  • 86 vehicle-versus-deer crashes
  • 48 property damage crashes
  • 21 personal injury crashes
  • 1 fatal crash

Jail Operations

The Yates County Jail had an average daily population of 33 inmates during the quarter.

The facility processed 35 male admissions and five female admissions, conducted 35 arraignments, served 9,045 meals, and jail medical staff completed 154 medical exams and case management visits.

Animal Control and Records

Animal Control officers investigated 139 complaints, responded to 20 animal bite cases, and logged 12,380 miles while on patrol.

The Sheriff’s Office also reported:

  • 73 registered sex offenders living in Yates County
  • 12 new pistol permit applications
  • 363 Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests completed

Civil Division

The Civil Division processed seven evictions, 78 Family Court summonses, and served 158 legal papers during the quarter.

The Sheriff’s Office releases quarterly statistics to provide residents with an overview of law enforcement, corrections, dispatch, animal control, records, and civil division activity across Yates County.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Police reports are automatically removed from this site after 90 days.
