A Cicero man faces a traffic citation following an investigation into a fatal two-vehicle collision that occurred on earlier this month in the Town of Seneca.

On Wednesday, Bruce Peterson, 65, was issued a citation for failing to stop at a stop sign. The crash occurred at approximately 11:15 a.m. on July 5 at the intersection of Kashong Switch Road and Wabash Road.

According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, Peterson was driving a 2026 Subaru westbound on Kashong Switch Road when he allegedly failed to stop, colliding with a 2017 Volkswagen Jetta traveling southbound on Wabash Road. The Jetta was driven by Christopher Hughes, 41, of Farmington.

A passenger in Peterson’s vehicle, identified as 96-year-old Joan Peterson of Fayetteville, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Following the impact, Bruce Peterson was transported by Stanley Hall Gorham Ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital with facial and back injuries. Hughes was evaluated by emergency crews at the scene and did not require further medical treatment.

Members of the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team and Criminal Investigation Division responded to process the scene, closing the intersection for approximately three hours.

Peterson is scheduled to answer the ticket in the Town of Seneca Court at a later date.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Police reports are automatically removed from this site after 90 days.
