On Monday, Cayuga County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a Town of Sterling man following a warrant investigation into property damage.

Justin Brown, 31, was charged with two counts of Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree. The charges stem from an incident on June 16, when deputies responded to a complaint of damage to two vehicles at a Sterling residence.

An investigation revealed that Brown allegedly operated a side-by-side ATV in a reckless manner, causing $13,961.76 in damage to two vehicles parked in a driveway. After multiple failed attempts by deputies to contact Brown, an arrest warrant was issued out of Sterling Town Court.

Brown later contacted the Sheriff’s Office and turned himself in. He was processed and taken to Centralized Arraignment, where he was released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to answer the charges in Sterling Town Court at a later date.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Police reports are automatically removed from this site after 90 days.
