On Thursday, deputies of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested Daniel Beal, 57, of Rochester, following an investigation into a reported domestic dispute in Wayland.
According to authorities, Beal allegedly assaulted another individual and forcibly stole money from them. During the encounter, Beal also allegedly resisted his lawful arrest, assaulted the deputy attempting to take him into custody, strangled the deputy, and then attempted to flee the scene. The victim of the alleged robbery was transported to a local medical facility for treatment. The deputy involved was also transported to a local medical facility and has since been released.
Beal has been charged with first-degree assault, first-degree strangulation, second-degree robbery, third-degree assault, resisting arrest, and obstructing governmental administration.
Following his arrest, Beal was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and remanded to the Steuben County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond.
