A routine parole compliance check at a Bath hotel resulted in the arrest of a local man on felony drug charges.

According to the Village of Bath Police Department, officers responded to the Finger Lakes Inn at 330 West Morris Street at approximately 3 p.m. on June 23 to assist New York State Parole with a compliance check involving a parolee staying at the hotel.

During the compliance check, authorities said they discovered a large quantity of suspected fentanyl in the possession of 34-year-old Coty  Murphy.

Murphy was arrested and charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class C felony.

Police said Murphy was processed and transported to the Steuben County Jail to await arraignment in CAP Court, where he was held without bail.

Authorities noted that Murphy is a two-time convicted felon in New York State and remains under the supervision of the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Police reports are automatically removed from this site after 90 days.
