On Sunday, State Police arrested a Montour man following an investigation into an incident where a construction zone flagger was intentionally struck by a vehicle.
Ryan Sochia, 20, was taken into custody at his residence on County Road 14 in the Town of Montour. The arrest stems from an investigation into a July 14 incident on Ridge Road in the Town of Horseheads.
Investigators determined that Sochia was operating a yellow and blue 1999 Ford Mustang when he approached an active construction zone. Sochia allegedly revved the vehicle’s engine and antagonized a flagger who was displaying a stop sign and directing traffic to stop. He is then accused of intentionally striking the flagger with the vehicle before fleeing the scene.
The flagger was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, sustaining bruising before being released.
Sochia was charged with Assault in the Second Degree, Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree, Reckless Driving, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Third Degree, Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident, and multiple vehicle and traffic violations.
Sochia was arraigned in the Town of Horseheads Court and released after posting $1,080 bail.
