On Tuesday, State Police arrested an Ithaca man following a reported burglary in progress at an apartment on Graham Road in the Village of Lansing.
David Thomas, 48, was taken into custody after law enforcement responded to the scene at approximately 12:05 a.m.
Investigators determined that just before midnight, residents heard banging outside their home and observed an unknown male who began kicking the apartment door. The suspect allegedly kicked and shattered a glass pane next to the door before forcing entry into the residence.
The residents armed themselves with a cane and a pocketknife and repeatedly instructed the suspect to leave. During the confrontation, one resident struck the suspect with the cane before the suspect fled the area on foot.
A short time later, a State Trooper located a man matching the suspect’s description walking on Graham Road. When the Trooper attempted to take him into custody, Thomas allegedly resisted arrest by punching the Trooper in the face and refusing to comply with commands. With the assistance of a Tompkins County Sheriff’s Deputy, he was taken into custody.
Thomas was evaluated at the scene by Bangs Ambulance but did not require medical transport.
He was charged with Burglary in the Second Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree, Resisting Arrest, and Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree.
Thomas was processed at SP Ithaca and turned over to the Tompkins County Jail for Centralized Arraignment Part court.
