A Marion man was arrested following a disturbance at the Marion Public Library that prompted a response from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

According to deputies, 23-year-old Luca Gruttadaurio was taken into custody on Monday afternoon after law enforcement responded to the library.

Authorities allege Gruttadaurio made homicidal threats toward family members and threats of self-harm while speaking with relatives by phone. Deputies said that when they attempted to speak with him, Gruttadaurio indicated he would not comply with their instructions and threatened to fight officers. Despite efforts by law enforcement to de-escalate the situation, authorities allege he became combative and refused to cooperate.

Gruttadaurio was arrested and charged with second-degree obstruction of governmental administration.

He was transported to the Wayne County Jail for processing and later released with an appearance ticket directing him to appear in Marion Town Court at a later date.

Following his release, Gruttadaurio was taken to Newark-Wayne Community Hospital for further evaluation.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Police reports are automatically removed from this site after 90 days.
