A Hornell man was arrested after allegedly violating a protective order.

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that deputies arrested 38-year-old Austin Briggs following a report that he was in a room in bed with a party protected by a duly served order of protection.

It is alleged that Briggs violated the order of protection and had been previously convicted of violating a protective order within the past five years. As a result, Briggs has been charged with Aggravated Family Offense and Criminal Contempt in the First Degree, both of which are class E felonies.

Briggs was arraigned in Centralized Arraignment Court and remanded to the Steuben County Jail in lieu of bail.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Police reports are automatically removed from this site after 90 days.
