On Wednesday, investigators with the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office issued an appearance ticket to a Geneva woman, charging her with welfare fraud.

Krystal Latour, 36, is accused of Welfare Fraud in the Fourth Degree, a Class E felony.

The charge stems from an investigation initiated after the Ontario County Department of Social Services received information indicating that Latour’s children were allegedly no longer residing with her while she continued to receive public assistance benefits on their behalf. Investigators determined that had Latour accurately reported her household makeup, she allegedly would have received $2,567.00 less in Temporary Assistance and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

Latour was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to answer the charge in the Town of Hopewell Court at a later date.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Police reports are automatically removed from this site after 90 days.
