Two Cayuga County residents turned themselves in at the Sheriff’s Office this week on outstanding arrest warrants related to welfare fraud.

Caitlyn Reeves of Aurora and Jean Garoppy of Auburn were taken into custody and processed. Following their arrest, both individuals were issued appearance tickets at the request of the judge and are scheduled to be arraigned in Auburn City Court on June 30th.

The cases were investigated by members of the Cayuga County Department of Social Services Case Integrity Unit, with assistance from the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office.

Authorities noted that the Sheriff’s Office remains committed to working alongside partner agencies at the Department of Social Services and the District Attorney’s Office to identify, investigate, and prosecute individuals who commit fraud within the community.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Police reports are automatically removed from this site after 90 days.
