An 18-year-old Waterloo man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing of a juvenile earlier this week in the Town of Seneca Falls.
The Seneca Falls Police Department announced Saturday that officers arrested 18-year-old Terrelle Freeman after executing a search warrant. Freeman was charged with first-degree assault, a felony, in connection with the July 7 stabbing.
Police said Freeman was processed and transported to the Seneca County Correctional Facility, where he is being held pending arraignment.
The arrest stems from an incident in which officers responded to a report of a juvenile who had been stabbed during an altercation. The victim was taken by North Seneca Ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital and underwent emergency surgery for life-threatening injuries. At last word, the juvenile was in stable condition.
Investigators determined the altercation occurred in the area of Canal and Center streets in the Town of Seneca Falls. No other injuries were reported.
At the time of the incident, Seneca Falls Police Chief Timothy Snyder described the recent increase in juvenile violence as deeply concerning, noting the department has investigated three juvenile stabbings in the past four months. Snyder also said officers have seen an increase in juveniles gathering in public areas during the late evening and overnight hours, leading to a variety of public safety concerns.
The Seneca Falls Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office and the Waterloo Police Department.
Authorities said the investigation remains active and ongoing.
As with any criminal case, the charge is an accusation, and the suspect is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
