The Tompkins County Office for the Aging will begin serving clients from a new location later this month as part of the county’s ongoing Center of Government project.

Beginning Monday, July 20, the office will operate from 31 Dutch Mill Road in Ithaca, allowing construction and renovation work to continue on the county’s downtown campus while maintaining services for older adults and caregivers.

Office for the Aging Director Lisa Monroe said the county is focused on making the transition as seamless as possible.

“While our address is changing, our commitment to helping older adults remain healthy, independent, and connected to their community remains exactly the same,” Monroe said. “We appreciate everyone’s patience during this transition and look forward to welcoming clients to our new office.”

The relocation follows the earlier move of the Tompkins County Department of Assessment to the Dutch Mill Road campus. Both moves are part of the county’s multi-year Center of Government project, which aims to modernize county facilities, improve accessibility, preserve aging infrastructure and create more efficient public service spaces.

County officials said construction of the new Center of Government requires several departments to temporarily relocate. As part of the project, Annex C at 128 E. Buffalo Street, which houses the Board of Elections, will be demolished to make room for the new government building. The Office for the Aging’s move to Dutch Mill Road will allow the Board of Elections to relocate into the agency’s current downtown offices while construction moves forward.

County Administrator Korsah Akumfi said the project is an investment in facilities that will better serve residents for years to come while maintaining uninterrupted public services during construction.

The move will take place over several days in July. The downtown Office for the Aging will be closed to in-person visitors on July 16 and 17 while staff relocate. However, employees will continue answering phone calls and assisting clients remotely during those two days.

Normal operations will resume at the new Dutch Mill Road office on July 20.

County officials said all Office for the Aging programs and services will continue without interruption throughout the move. Clients with questions about appointments or services are encouraged to call the office at 607-274-5482 before visiting.

The new office offers accessible parking, ADA-compliant facilities and convenient access for visitors traveling by car. Officials acknowledged the change may require an adjustment for some clients and thanked the community for its patience during the transition.
