An Ithaca man accused of fatally stabbing a 19-year-old woman has been indicted by a Tompkins County grand jury on murder and manslaughter charges.
Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten announced Monday that 20-year-old Damian Stewart was indicted on June 18 on one count of second-degree murder and one count of first-degree manslaughter in connection with the death of Breanne Keane.
The charges stem from an incident on May 23 in the Village of Cayuga Heights.
According to authorities, officers with the Cayuga Heights Police Department responded to a residence at 709 Triphammer Road at approximately 2 p.m. for a report of a woman who had been stabbed.
Police found Keane suffering from stab wounds. Emergency responders provided medical care at the scene and attempted life-saving measures, but she died while being transported to a local trauma center.
Additional details about the circumstances surrounding the stabbing were not immediately released.
Stewart is scheduled to face the charges in Tompkins County Court.
