The Jerusalem Town Board will hold a special meeting this week to begin the process of considering changes to two elected town offices.

The meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday at the Jerusalem Town Offices on Italy Hill Road in Branchport.

According to a public notice, the purpose of the meeting is to schedule public hearings for July 15 on proposed local laws that would eliminate the elected positions of Town Superintendent of Highways and Town Clerk.

Under the proposals, both positions would become appointed offices rather than elected ones. The local laws would also establish four-year terms for the appointed Town Superintendent of Highways and the appointed Town Clerk.

The board is expected to set the date and details for the public hearings during the Thursday special meeting, allowing residents an opportunity to comment on the proposed changes before any action is taken.
