New York State Police have identified the woman killed in a motorcycle crash Sunday morning in Onondaga County as 55-year-old Karyn Stratton, of Farmington.
According to investigators, the crash occurred at approximately 10:10 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. Route 20 and Slate Hill Road in the Town of Marcellus. A preliminary investigation determined that an 18-year-old driver, Morgan Heise of Chaumont, Jefferson County, was operating a 2024 Subaru northbound on Slate Hill Road and had stopped at the intersection with Route 20. Police said Heise then entered the intersection and failed to yield the right-of-way to an eastbound 2014 Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
The motorcycle’s operator, Bruce Stratton, 55, of Farmington, and passenger Karyn Stratton were ejected from the motorcycle during the collision. Both were transported to Upstate University Hospital, where Karyn Stratton later died from her injuries.
State Police said Bruce Stratton remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Heise was not injured in the crash.
The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit assisted with the investigation. State Police were also assisted at the scene by the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, Marcellus Police Department, Marcellus Ambulance, and Marcellus Fire Department.
The investigation remains ongoing.
