The Moravia Central School District will reopen its fitness center to community members on a limited schedule beginning July 1, after concerns were raised about a previous decision to close the facility to the public.
In a message to the school community, district officials said several residents addressed the Board of Education during its June 10 meeting, expressing concerns about the planned closure and offering suggestions for maintaining public access.
The district said the original decision to discontinue community use was made during development of the 2026-27 budget. Officials cited the cost of operating the facility and challenges in finding paid staff to supervise its use. After reviewing feedback from residents, district leadership developed a plan that will allow community members to continue using the fitness center during designated hours.
Beginning July 1, the facility will be open year-round from 5 to 7 a.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
Community members who wish to use the fitness center must purchase a membership before accessing the facility. Membership options include a six-month plan for $240 and a 12-month plan for $460.
Membership registration and payments will be managed through the district’s Athletic Office and the RhinoFit platform.
District officials said schedules for student and student-athlete access are still being developed and will be shared with families at a later date.
