Emergency crews responded to a rollover crash along the New York State Thruway on Sunday that left a vehicle overturned down an embankment in a wooded area.

According to the Clyde-Galen Fire District, crews from the Tyre Station and Main Central Station 1 were dispatched for a motor vehicle accident with possible entrapment. First responders arriving on scene found a single vehicle off the roadway, overturned on its roof in a swampy, wooded area. Rescue crews located one person inside the vehicle who was conscious and alert but unable to free themselves due to their seatbelt and the vehicle’s position.

Additional crews worked to clear a path to the vehicle, including cutting fence wire caught in nearby trees, allowing rescuers to safely access the patient.

Officials say the individual was removed from the vehicle without incident and turned over to EMS for evaluation.

Fire crews also assisted with removing the vehicle and managing traffic at the scene.

There is no word on what caused the accident, and the identity of the driver involved has yet to be released.
