A Baldwinsville man was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Auburn after a police pursuit that began in Onondaga County involving a vehicle reported stolen, according to reporting by The Auburn Citizen.
The Citizen reported that the pursuit began at approximately 4 p.m. in the Village of Skaneateles after a Skaneateles police officer observed a vehicle traveling 46 mph on West Genesee Street. Skaneateles Police Chief Scott Heggelke told the newspaper the officer learned through an Onondaga County 911 alert that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Oswego County.
When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle west of the village, the driver allegedly refused to pull over and continued into Cayuga County.
According to The Citizen, Cayuga County 911 notified local law enforcement, and the Auburn Police Department took over the pursuit with assistance from the New York State Police and the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.
Auburn Police Lt. Steven Deyo told The Citizen officers attempted a traffic stop near Standart Avenue. The pursuit ended about five minutes later on Seymour Street near North Division Street, where the driver was taken into custody.
According to the Auburn Police Department’s daily arrest report, 53-year-old David O’Brien of Baldwinsville was charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony, along with misdemeanor counts of third-degree fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, unauthorized use of a vehicle, criminal mischief and resisting arrest. He also received multiple traffic citations.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
