The former chief of the West Bloomfield Volunteer Fire Department pleaded not guilty Monday to charges stemming from his response to a rollover crash last month.
Ronald Smith is charged with driving while intoxicated and consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle.
According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, Smith arrived in his personal vehicle at a rollover crash on Routes 5 and 20 in West Bloomfield shortly before 8 p.m. June 4. Deputies alleged Smith had an open alcohol container and showed signs of possible intoxication. Smith was arrested following a roadside investigation.
The West Bloomfield Volunteer Fire Department previously announced that its judicial committee removed Smith as fire chief following his arrest. He remains a member of the department.
Smith is scheduled to return to West Bloomfield Town Court on August 17.
The charges are allegations, and Smith is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
