GENEVA, NY – On Saturday, October 14th at 6:00pm, the Smith Center for the Arts invites guests to come together to taste delicious local beers and enjoy music from local Zydeco dance band Rose and the Bros, all while supporting the arts in Geneva! Seven regional breweries will participate in the event, offering tastings of their most popular brews along with light bites and a commemorative glass! Tickets are $50 each ($85 per couple) and can be purchased here. All proceeds will go to benefit the programming and maintenance of the historic Smith Opera House.
Participating brewers include Relative Risk Brewing Company, Other Half Brewing, Brewery Ardennes, Climbing Bines Brewery, Big ALICe Brewing, Personal Best Brewing, Watershed Brewing Company, and Scale House Brewery. Each brewery will present samples of their prized ales during the 6-8pm tasting portion of the evening. Accompanying the beverage offerings will be an array of light fare; vendors include Heavy Kevie’s, The Deluxe Grill, Club 86, Mark’s Pizzeria, and 41 Lakefront’s f2T (Farm to Table) Restaurant. At 8pm, Rose and the Bros will take the stage and attendees can dance to a full set brimming with Zydeco rhythms! The event is sponsored by Iversen Construction Company, Proctor Enterprises, and the UPS Store. Iversen and Proctor’s have been instrumental in keeping the Smith Opera House in tiptop shape.
Brews and Bluegrass is proud to present Rose and the Bros, a powerhouse ensemble rooted in southern dance tradition with the addition of crooning vocal harmonies and country music influences. Boasting the talented musical stylings of many of upstate New York’s most beloved performers, the members of Rose and the Bros include singer, music educator, and soulful multi-instrumentalist, Rosie Newton, owner of South Hill Cider and string player, Steven Selin, farmer and guitarist, Paul Martin, energetic bass player, Angelo Peters, jazz professor and captivating drummer, Greg Evans, and rubboard and triangle player, Sally Freund, who joins the band from Louisiana. Their performance is sure to top off a memorable evening of delicious local brews and delightful light fare from local vendors.
The Smith Center for the Arts is committed to providing and sustaining diverse arts and education enrichment opportunities for Finger Lakes residents and visitors, while maintaining its historic venue – the Smith Opera House. The proceeds from Brews and Bluegrass will help pay for the cost of the robust artistic programming presented by the Smith Center for the Arts each year. The Smith Opera House is a 128 year old historic landmark that Brews and Bluegrass participants can take pride in supporting by attending this tasty and jovial Autumn evening.
