Jonathan Monfiletto, Executive Director of the Seneca Falls Historical Society, and author Mary Lash will present a program on the Seneca Knitting Mill and Lash’s historical novel “Women of Glass and Steel” on Saturday, Aug. 22, at 2 p.m. at the Becker Mansion in Seneca Falls.
Monfiletto will discuss the history of the Seneca Knitting Mill, detailing its more than 150 years of operation and its impact on the community and people of Seneca Falls.
Lash will share the story behind the real locations and characters in her historical novel “Women of Glass and Steel.” The book is set in Seneca Falls in 1916 and features a character named Della (Delfina Pereira) who works in the knitting mill, with her mother depicted as an outspoken suffragist. Lash will also explain how the community of Seneca Falls, past and present, has influenced her life and writing.
The program will take place in the dining room of the Becker Mansion, located at 55 Cayuga St. in Seneca Falls. Admission costs $8 for Seneca Falls Historical Society members and $10 for nonmembers. Advance registration is welcome but not required.
