Weekly Outlook: Gray start, then showers arrive midweek

Every humidity gauge across the region is pegged at or near 100 percent this morning — Geneva sitting at 57° and socked in, with that thick, still overcast that comes with air fully saturated after a wet stretch. It’s a damp, gray start to the week, but today is actually the quiet day before the pattern gets more interesting.

Clouds hold through this morning, and while there’s essentially no precipitation chance today — just 1 percent — the ceiling stays low and the air feels heavier than the thermometer suggests. Afternoon highs climb to near 73° in Geneva and Auburn, with Ithaca and Watkins Glen reaching the mid-70s. Light northwest winds keep things comfortable once the sun finds any gap in the overcast. Tonight stays mild, dropping back to the upper 50s regionwide.

Wednesday brings partial clearing and a slightly warmer afternoon — highs near 76° — before the pattern shifts. A warm front tracking north into the area Thursday will bring showers and the potential for thunderstorms, particularly Thursday afternoon when a shortwave disturbance adds energy to the system. That front’s cold side sweeps through Thursday evening or overnight, with showers continuing into portions of Friday. Timing still carries some uncertainty, so watch for updates.

The weekend picture improves notably: partly cloudy to clear skies Saturday and Sunday, with highs climbing to near 82° Saturday and pushing toward 86° Sunday. Stream flows are running at routine seasonal levels — no flooding concerns heading into the week.
