Rain exits tonight; drizzle and fog linger into Tuesday morning

A quiet, damp close to a gray Monday here in Geneva — 61 degrees and overcast at nearly 11 PM, with the kind of heavy, still air that follows a day of moderate rain. The main story tonight is the exit, not the arrival: that surface low that drove today’s rainfall is tracking toward southern New England by morning, and the widespread precipitation has already pushed east.

What stays behind is the nuisance — patchy drizzle and low clouds will persist overnight, especially across higher terrain south of the Thruway. Watkins Glen and the southern valleys are most likely to see that drizzle linger, along with some patchy fog. Lows settle near 60° across the region, so no frost concern tonight.

Tuesday brings gradual improvement. The drizzle and fog may hang on through mid-morning in some spots, but high pressure builds in from the northwest through the afternoon, pushing sunshine across the region from Geneva southward through the day. Highs reach the low-to-mid 70s — a noticeable step up from today’s 66°.

Looking further out: enjoy the dry window Wednesday through Thursday morning, because another round of showers and thunderstorms is expected to develop Thursday into the weekend. Race fans headed to Watkins Glen International for the IMSA WeatherTech weekend should watch Friday and Saturday closely — current timing puts the best shower chances right in that window, with conditions improving for Sunday’s Sahlen’s Six Hours.
