Keuka Drops Softball DH to Elmira

The Keuka College Softball team was swept in an Empire 8 doubleheader Tuesday at Elmira College.

Keuka College (6-19, 4-12 Empire 8) dropped the opener 15-8 to Elmira and then fell in the nightcap 6-4.

Elmira took the early lead in game one, but the Wolves answered on an RBI single by Olivia Frank (Franklinville, N.Y. / Ten Broeck Academy). Keuka took the lead an inning later on a two-run single by Grace Eagen (Buffalo, N.Y. / West Seneca West) to make it 3-1.

The Soaring Eagles tied the game, but Hailey Jasinski (Buffalo, N.Y. / North Collins) responded with a triple to score two. Elmira pulled one back, but the Wolves added three runs in the fifth to extend their lead. Lizzie Kocsis (Cuba, N.Y. / Cuba-Rushford) recorded the first hit of her career with an RBI single, and Katie Landers (Batavia, N.Y. / Batavia Notre Dame) followed with a two-run single to push the lead to 8-4.

Elmira answered with four runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game, then scored seven in the sixth to secure the 15-8 win.

In game two, Keuka jumped out early with two runs in the first. Olivia Flynn (Williamson, N.Y. / Williamson) led off with a single and later scored on a hit by Lindsay Stuck (Wellsville, N.Y. / Wellsville). Grace Eagen followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0.

Elmira responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. The Wolves got one back on a single by Flynn in the second and tied the game in the third when Jasinski scored on a passed ball.

The Soaring Eagles regained control with two runs in the fifth to take a 6-4 lead. Keuka put the tying run on base in the seventh but could not capitalize.

The Wolves return to action Friday with a conference doubleheader at Houghton University.
