Hobart College has added a new assistant coach to its hockey program, announcing that Dawson Garcia will join head coach Mark Taylor’s staff for the 2026-27 season.
Garcia replaces Alec Marsh, who has accepted a position with Penn State as the program’s director of player personnel and video.
Garcia arrives in Geneva after spending the past two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Niagara University. There, he helped prepare scouting reports and video breakdowns, led on-ice practice drills and worked with players on skill development. He also created a faceoff scouting system that helped Niagara finish among the nation’s top 10 teams in faceoff percentage during both of his seasons with the Purple Eagles.
Taylor said Garcia’s background in player development and power skating, along with his familiarity with the Hobart program through former assistants now at Niagara, made him a strong fit.
In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Garcia has served as a head instructor for Paul Vincent’s Hockey Academy since 2023 and founded DG Hockey, which provides skill development programs for youth and high school players.
A graduate of Westfield State University, Garcia earned a bachelor’s degree in movement science in 2024 after serving as captain of the Owls during his senior season. He later completed a master’s degree in sports management at Niagara.
Marsh’s move to Penn State continues a recent trend of Hobart assistant coaches advancing to Division I programs. Taylor noted that each of his last five assistant coaches has gone on to coach at the Division I level.
The Statesmen open the 2026-27 season on Oct. 30, hosting Route 14 rival Elmira at The Cooler in Geneva.
