A Williamson woman is facing felony charges following an investigation into alleged welfare fraud involving SNAP benefits.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, 60-year-old Amy Francis was arrested following a joint investigation conducted by the Sheriff’s Office and the Wayne County Department of Social Services.

Authorities allege Francis failed to report income earned by her husband while receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits through the county. Investigators said the omission resulted in Francis receiving more than $2,000 in benefits to which she was not entitled.

Francis was charged with fourth-degree welfare fraud, fourth-degree grand larceny and first-degree offering a false instrument for filing.

She was processed at the Wayne County Jail and released with an appearance ticket. Francis is scheduled to appear in Lyons Town Court on July 8.

The Wayne County Department of Social Services assisted in the investigation.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Police reports are automatically removed from this site after 90 days.
