On Wednesday, the Bath Police Department arrested Tyler Gilbert, age 38, and Hailee Gilbert, age 31, both of Bath, after the parents turned themselves in to police.

The arrests follow an investigation that began on May 28, when officers responded to a residence on Howell Street in the village of Bath to assist Steuben County Child Protective Services with a home visit. Upon arrival, officers allegedly observed the apartment to be in deplorable condition, with garbage and feces scattered throughout the residence.

Further investigation revealed that two children resided in the home with the couple. Authorities allegedly found that all of the furniture, including the areas where the children slept, was covered in feces. Following the discovery, Bath Village Code Enforcement condemned the residence, and a safety plan was implemented for the children.

Both individuals were charged with two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Following their arrests, they were arraigned in Bath Village Court and released on appearance tickets.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Police reports are automatically removed from this site after 90 days.
