On Thursday, members of the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office arrested Benjamin Tyrrell, 38, of Scipio. Tyrrell is accused of Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree, a class A misdemeanor.

The arrest follows an investigation opened earlier this month into allegations that, while incarcerated in the Cayuga County Jail, Tyrrell was contacting a party protected by a full stay-away order of protection. Investigators determined there was probable cause to believe Tyrrell violated the terms of that order.

Tyrrell was processed and subsequently arraigned at the Centralized Arraignment Part (CAP) Court. Bail was set at $8,000 cash or $16,000 bond.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Police reports are automatically removed from this site after 90 days.
