Rochester Man Arrested Following Go-Kart Crash in Potter

On Friday, Yates County Deputies responded to Phelps Road in Potter for a report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries.

An investigation revealed that 64-year-old M Sheared of Rochester was traveling west on a gas-operated go-kart when he exited the roadway and rolled into a ditch. Deputies noted that Sheared showed signs of intoxication and placed him into custody.

Sheared was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree, Consuming Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle, operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle, and Moving From a Lane Unsafely. He was transported to the Yates County Jail to await centralized arraignment.

The arresting officer was working the New York State STOP-DWI High Visibility Campaign at the time of the incident.

Yates County Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Potter Fire Department, Penn Yan Ambulance, and Middlesex Ambulance.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Police reports are automatically removed from this site after 90 days.
