On Friday, Ontario County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Ontario County DSS Building on County Complex Drive in the Town of Hopewell for a reported bomb threat.

At approximately 11:15 a.m., deputies quickly converged on the area and were able to identify and detain the suspect, Christopher Hillen, 48, of Ontario. Authorities quickly determined that there was no credible threat to the facility.

During the subsequent investigation, it was determined that Hillen also allegedly attempted to steal an employee badge from a DSS case worker. He was taken into custody for attempted petit larceny and was formally trespassed from the Ontario County DSS property.

Hillen was issued an appearance ticket for the charge and will return to the Hopewell Town Court at a later date.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Police reports are automatically removed from this site after 90 days.
