On Thursday afternoon, a Lyons man was arrested following a shoplifting investigation at the Geneva Walmart.

Deputies arrested Matthew Butchino, 40, of Lyons, at approximately 4:12 p.m. on Thursday. Butchino allegedly used the assistance of his 15-year-old son to steal merchandise valued at $19.86 from the store on State Routes 5 and 20 in the Town of Geneva.

According to authorities, Butchino had previously been trespassed from all Walmart locations in July 2024. Because of the active trespass order and the involvement of a minor, his actions resulted in elevated charges.

Butchino was officially charged with Burglary in the Third Degree, Conspiracy in the Fourth Degree, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Petit Larceny. Following his arrest, he was transported to the Ontario County Jail to be held for centralized arraignment court without bail.

Butchino is scheduled to appear in the Town of Geneva Court at a later date to answer the charges.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Police reports are automatically removed from this site after 90 days.
