On Wednesday, police arrested a Branchport man following a traffic stop on East Elm Street.
Christopher Egburtson Jr., 27, was taken into custody after police officers observed a vehicle swerving off the roadway, nearly striking trash cans on Seneca Street, and failing to signal a turn within 100 feet. Upon stopping the vehicle, officers identified the driver as Egburtson and noted several indicators of intoxication, as well as an open container of alcohol in the center console.
Egburtson allegedly failed standardized field sobriety tests at the scene. He was transported to the Yates County Jail, where a voluntary chemical breath test revealed a blood alcohol content of 0.13%.
Egburtson was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Driving While Intoxicated with a Blood Alcohol Content of 0.08% or Greater, Insufficient Turn Signal, Moving from a Lane Unsafely, and Consumption of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle.
He was released on traffic tickets and is scheduled to appear in Penn Yan Village Court at a later date.
