A man injured in a house fire last month in Onondaga County has died.

State Police say Mark Smith, 41, of Bridgeport, succumbed to injuries on April 9 following the fire, which occurred on March 24 at a home on Areopagitica Avenue in the Town of Cicero.

Troopers were originally called to the residence around 7:00 p.m. for a reported structure fire. Smith was inside the home at the time and was transported to Upstate University Hospital in critical condition.

Officials say the investigation into the cause and origin of the fire remains ongoing. Preliminary findings have not indicated any foul play.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office and several area fire departments, along with the Onondaga County Department of Emergency Management Fire Investigation Unit.

State Police say the investigation is continuing.
