The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles and NY State Parks & Historic Sites unveiled a new “America 250” license plate to commemorate the birth of our great nation.
New Yorkers interested in purchasing a special license plate through the Department of Motor Vehicles must meet several requirements before placing an order online.
According to the DMV, motorists must have a valid New York State vehicle registration that does not expire within 60 days of the order date. The registration document must include the vehicle’s current plate number and registration class code. Drivers whose registrations are set to expire within the next 60 days must renew their registration online before applying for the special plate.
The DMV also requires that a vehicle owner’s name and address be current and on file with the agency. Anyone who has recently moved should update their address with the DMV before submitting an order.
To complete the online transaction, applicants must have a valid email address and a credit or debit card accepted by the DMV.
State officials say meeting these requirements in advance can help ensure the ordering process is completed without delays.
